Lisa Price

Founder and Managing Partner, Carols Daughter

Lisa Price is the Founder and Managing Partner of Carol's Daughter, Inc. This Brooklyn, New York-based company launched in 1993 produces a wide assortment of nature-inspired beauty products. Ms. Price is also the author of Success Never Smelled So Sweet, a remarkable memoir that recounts her life and her ongoing pilgrimage to find perfection--in herself and with her business. In the book, Ms. Price speaks wisely and insightfully about the ways of life and the challenges and obstacles one must overcome to be successful. It is an inspiring tale of how a young Black woman, deep in debt and burdened with low self-esteem, follows her calling and builds a multi-million dollar business.

In August of 1994, Ms. Price officially established Carol's Daughter (the company lovingly named after her mother). Initially starting out with a handful of steady customers, those numbers grew in leaps and bounds as even those outside her neighborhood and circle of friends began to take notice. Ms. Price's clientele continued to grow from her mail-order business and the creation of a web site, and in 1999 she opened the first Carol's Daughter store in Brooklyns cosmopolitan Fort Greene neighborhood. Her burgeoning business became stories on the pages of other publications such as Cosmopolitan, Essence, InStyle, Marie Claire and Essence, and she appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show, ABC's The View and was recently featured on Americas Next Top Model. In addition to being available in Carols Daughter retail stores, Carols Daughter is also sold in Sephora stores nationwide.

Ms. Price's success story has also been chronicled in such magazines as People, "O" The Oprah Magazine, Parenting, Crain's New York Business and Ebony. She has also appeared on such television programs as The Today Show, E! Entertainment Television and BET. She is the recipient of numerous awards, among them the National Black MBA Association's Entrepreneur of the Year Award (2000), the Working Woman Magazines Entrepreneurial Excellence Award (2001) and the National Book Club Conference Terrie Williams Inspiration Award (2004).
